I think some of this is very legitimate thanks from the crew. I did a flight to Raleigh last week for an interview and came home on the same plane with the same crew. When I got off in ATL the pilot/FO recognized me and said "Thanks for flying us twice today, I hope your trip was a success". I was impressed.
