My wife's card was stolen in Rome one afternoon in 2009. The card was replaced the next day at an AMEX Travel Office in Rome. We had called in advance and just walked to the office. (They created the card onsite after producing several forms of ID. It was not a plat card, that was sent to our house a few days later.) I was very happy with their service.
