My Mephisto's (women's) always trigger an alarm at the security check at the federal courthouse. At the Airport / TSA -- have always had to remove them anyway, so presume they would trigger an alarm if I wore them through the metal detector. (They make it through the x-ray machine -- both domestic US and international -- just fine, though.)
