It's no different from Chateau Petrus or DRC Burgundies (and I am VERY expert about my wines ) If you price something high enough and aggressively market the superiority and exclusivity of it, you will find some number of people with more money than sense, who's personal ego and sense of superiority is pandered to by that perception of exclusivity and the ego boost that their discerning connoisseurship is what enables them to appreciate it.
They can always say that no expense is spared in developing the last 5% or 1% of ultimate quality, and if you are amongst the hoi polloi that can't appreciate or afford the expense of that last iota of quality, well then, the stuff was not meant for you, only for folks who are more discerning than you. But be assured that the folks doing the marketing get it, and they themselves almost certainly don't consume the stuff, except when they can get it for a small fraction of the cost that the general public pays, through their industry connections.
