Thanks folks for confirming the Flex award rules. As someone who collected 2M miles (1 MMer on AAdvantage) and spent 1.5M of them, I am very well aware of how to use the miles for best value.

I do realize that miles have been devalued over the past decade since my flying days ended; but this program is just not useful for US based members.

Well, even when delta.com shows availability the airfrance.us website shows nothing. During the summer I was trying to book some SFO-JFK RT tickets, a route where DL has tons of flights every day. I could get the 40K award for economy (peak summer) on DL, but there was absolutely nothing available for KLM miles. I also called the phone number.

So for all practical purposes those miles were useless even on a trunk route.

I think the only purpose these miles will serve is to book a vacation 6-12 months in advance where hopefully at least some seats will be available.

They have very few options otherwise.
