This has always been the case for Air Asia. After online check-in, you would still need to go to the counter to have your boarding pass printout and travel documents verified at the document checks counter. The staff would then stamp your boarding pass. Applies to all Air Asia stations. I think quite a number of airlines applies the same procedure so as to verify your travel documents are valid.
