One way to do this is to select a starting point in the US that is serviced by CX and not BA. I can't think of one off the top of my head but maybe someone who knows will be along shortly.

Also consider that you have to get to the bus station to start with since Johannesburg Park Station isn't yet connected with the Gautrain service from the airport. I don't know what the surrounding area is like nowadays but I wouldn't be particularly keen to find out (or any other bus station in/near the city itself), especially since the services tend to leave either very early in the morning or late at night.

The Gautrain does stop at Midrand but the Greyhound bus stops at the services on the N1 highway (motorway) just outside of town.
On the subject of the Gautrain, it is a very good service and highly recommend for destinations in Midrand, Sandton or Rosebank. Traffic on the N3/N1 highways is dire at most times of the day - although the imminent arrival of pay per kilometre tolls might help with this.
