Be careful when you're tired
Just keep in mind that even the smartest, most-cautious and street-wise of us can have a moment when our guard is let down. I've done a fair amount of traveling in the past decade or so, and never, ever, had a problem. Harassed here & there, yeah, who isn't, but you just move on.
But this past July my son and I are returning from a Tour de France stage in Grenoble, on an outrageously-overstuffed trolley. To say I was tired is an understatement; after following the Tour through the mountains on our bikes the past week, with many late nights as I planned the next day, I was completely out of it. And while I noticed the empty baby carriage next to me, I didn't think much of it, even as the woman bumped and grinded her way through on her way out. 10 minutes later I noticed my iPhone had been lifted from me. I should have known better; I did know better, just wasn't thinking. It was in a holster on a belt. Dumb dumb dumb. I'd taken care of my wallet but not my iPhone.
