Hilton points are not as valuable as they used to be. But they are still worth something.

For me, I tend to have three types of hotel decisions for revenue stays:
- Small town: Hampton Inn vs. HI/HIX/Candlewood
- Outskirts of medium/large city: HGI/Homewood vs. Hyatt Place (and sometimes a known good CP/Staybridge)
- Large city: IC vs. Hyatt Regency vs. Priceline 3.5*

On the small town, my decision to not go with Hampton is made first on the quality of the Priority Club property, and only then on the promos both chains are offering.

On the medium/suburban stays, if price is equal, I'm generally going to stay at Hyatt Place if I'm alone, and at HGI if I'm with coworkers.

On the large urban stays, now that Diamond is less valuable to me due to the DFA erosion, I will not generally stay at Hilton family properties unless I'm redeeming or unless it's the conference hotel.
