We (an older middle-aged couple) were approached in People's Square on our very recent trip to Beijing. The young couple spoke such good English and seemed so nice that at first I wasn't sure it was an attempted scam. Then, after much friendly conversation, they brought up the subject of a special "tea ceremony" that they might be able to take us to. I was really disappointed to find out that, indeed, they were just trying to scam us. Of course, we refused. We just chalked it up to 15 minutes wasted and an interesting experience. But do be aware that they can be VERY good at this!
Ooops, I guess I shouldn't post when I'm still jet-lagged! People's Square is in Shanghai! Does that mean the couple wasn't trying to scam us?

The only thing we got in Beijing was a lot of "art students" and others who wanted to be our guide.
