This is not to be confused with COLLISION coverage which is often free with your major credit card. The collision insurance is secondary to your own insurance, but primary if you don't already have your own insurance. 15 days maximum rental, except Amex is 30 days.
For those who do not own a car but who rent one with some frequency (and want more than the minimum coverage provided in most states), a non-owned automobile liability policy can offer good value. An insurance agent who writes for The Travelers should be able to give you a quote.
