IMHO, I would want the dress travel with me.. just in case it was damaged during shipping or lost.

I think I will still try to do carry on. And it is a good idea to have your fiance to bring it too...

And unless you have a hard shell suite case you can fit it in (and still a very small chance of losing it) I won't check it in.
