Not sure about that routing, but as far as the DTW-TPE for me, four out of five trips this year have had equipment changes in NRT. There have been annoucements made in BE (or somebody is holding sign as we de-plane) to go to the gate to get a new seat assignment. I actually thought it was standard procedure so they wouldn't have to fly a 747 and could go with something smaller.
