Well, a bird in hand like this should never be let go especially since you now know for yourself that agent discretion does come into play. If you call back, they should be able to look up who you originally spoke with and helped put the initial itinerary together. Anytime an agent touches a PNR, it is documented.

Once you have the name and the office they work in, you could ask for them until you get them on the phone. Most agents have the same shifts 3-5 days a week, depending on their hours.
