You missed the point of the message you quoted. Under Star Alliance rules, if you hold an unrestricted ticket on any Star carrier, all other Star carriers are supposed to accept it on the same route.

For example, you have a UA full fare business class ticket from LAX-NRT. You are supposed to be able to show up at the Singapore counter and use that UA ticket for the SQ flight from LAX-NRT without any endorsement or problems, if there is a seat available.

I have used this benefit on UA and TG when my travel plans have changed at the last minute or flights have been disrupted. Has anybody done this on SQ yet?
