Ha, ha. Don't give the Chinese any ideas, they'll invent one! Naw, actually a couple of guys will come up to one or two foreigners in the usual prospecting locations (generally Tiananmen, Qianmen, FC area) and after some chit-chat, say "let's go grab some beers and chat about our countries, lives, sports, girls, etc." which is what normal guys do all over the world, right?

Of course, the venue chosen by the Chinese is in on the scam, and the beers start coming, then other snacks, sometimes other cheap liquors etc. And it generally ends up with a bill in the RMB 1000's being presented for something that should be about 10% of that. I've heard of some guys being fully alert to the art student scam and the tea ceremony scam and to avoid getting suckered in by young women steering them to same...only to get caught off-guard when it's a fellow bloke or two approaching them....and beer is mentioned.
