The lower level in the Amtrak/NJ Transit gives you full track access, and there are departure monitors all over the place just as there are everywhere else.

There are two means of accessing the tracks: stairs from the lower level, or an escalator from the upper level. It's not a matter of advocating chaos, or jumping a line - think of it as eliminating a bottleneck.
