I believe BA is often more expensive than AC on the YYZ-LHR route, perhaps due to less flights. But if you book in advance and are happy to spend more money to stay with Oneworld, then its perfectly possible.
Does West Jet offer code share services between your home city and YYZ for any Oneworld carriers? If so you might be able to earn miles/status on the domestic WestJet leg as well.
