Scary stuff
We stayed here in August. I never got round to writing it up. Platinum benefits were good. Breakfast was included but seems to be standard as I did not see anybody getting a bill at breakfast. Free drinks during cocktail hour, which was similar to what I think half-board plan also gets, but was nice. It was funny because every night they would bring a check and then I would have to say "I was told this was included as a platinum guest?" and they would fix, except the last night where when we sat down the waiter said "I see you are a SPG Platinum guest" except the way he said it sounded like "I see you are Species Platinum" and this has now become a long running gag in our household
We also got a great upgrade to a family suite which is basically two very large rooms with an interconnecting "porch". One room is a huge king room and the second room two queens and included lots of games and a playstation for the kids.
The hotel was extremely low occupancy, the main restaurant was closed for renovations (the irony - guess they are going to have to do all that again!) and weather sucked.
For when it does open up let me give some more feedback. The water sports center was not very pleasant. The staff are largely disinterested and just try to take you for more money. Basic water-ski is free but any lessons or anything fancy like tubing is extra and they fleece you. We walked over to the Maritim next door where the staff are far more welcoming and friendly. And their prices are literally half those of GM.
Also kids club staff come and promote themselves pretty heavily and they publish a daily list of activities which sounds wonderful but when we did drop off our kids they were basically put in front of a tv for a couple of hours. They were pretty scared to go back there! They like to do things and basically hated the place. I am not sure if this would have been better or worse with more kids around
The hotel was pretty nice but not out of this world. It's a pretty generic 4 star resort you could find in any sunny/beach location in the world. We were treated well, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here (pretty true of Mauritius in general IMHO)
