I was taken in by the infamous Istanbul scam a good few years back. I was approached on the street and they asked if they could show me around; I and the two guys spent several hours drinking and smoking shisha before the trip to "their" club. Something I'd done before in other European and Middle Eastern cities without thinking twice or getting into any trouble, more fool me.

Had my camera with me which I'm still amazed they didn't try to take; luckily there was a limit on my cash card withdrawls and so I could limit my damage to that (despite the "heavy" standing next to me trying to get me to take money out on my credit cards). They had me in the back office and shook me up pretty bad (and I do mean literally) but didn't strike me.

Went to the police station the next day as the tourist guides advised, and after making me wait an hour they told me they'd invited in the manager of the place to discuss how much I should have paid

I excused myself, walked away and didn't look back.
