The issue I have is how can United wiggle out of this when the same flights are flying at the same times?
Well, I guess I have learned a lesson from this, but I'm not sure United would have treated this any differently if I had booked it on their website.

How did United "wiggle out" of anything ? You originally purchased codeshare US Airline flights through a third party vendor (Travelocity = travel agent). You gave your money to Travelocity who then says due to a schedule change on US Airways your daughter has been rebooked on United flights -- (unacceptable to you -understandable, given the departure/arrival times). However, it appears your gripe should be with Travelocity - they obviously did/ accepted the changes on your behalf and then sent you the e-mail. If anything you should be talking to USAirways asking them why Travelocity is saying they (USAir) had a schedule change if they didn't ??? ......see poster #8.
