I avoid third parties but when using them, take advantage of schedule changes and the like to cut them out, and work directly with the airline as that usually yields me the best result.
The FT mantra is to always be polite to the rep, and if one can't help, say thanks, hang up and try again. No guarantee of success, but a better shot at it.

Ps i bypass the third parties bc they are useless, travelocity should deliver here, and they can if they wanted to, but seem to have left you hanging out there instead. They are more the problem child than ua imo.
