Am I right in thinking this will be short but do-able? I don't know the LAX airport at all: do we have to exit one terminal and go through security to another international terminal?

It might be too early to be sure of the situation in January, but why not check status for these or similar flights to get an idea of the typical arrival & departure gates for LIH-LAX & LAX-SYD. IME, although it was inbound intl-to-domestic (SYD-LAX-SEA), there was a terminal change & the accompanying TSA security check. If so, I'd be very doubtful of such a short connection time, but it looks like COSPILOT (see post 362) has a better feel for what might be the case. Still ... not much room for error here.
