b) Because this trip was booked via Expedia, the carriers are mixed. The biggest part was China Eastern. Although I did provided DL Skymiles number, the miles with China Eastern won't be automatically post to my DL Skymiles account unless I request it.

The reason I said maybe I should choose Delta at the first place is that now I recognized the China Eastern miles can only be transferred to Delta with 50% of actual miles and no 25% Medallion bonus either. That means although I saved $500 in cash, but I may lost 10,000 miles with Delta if I choose to convert. I was not sure whether I should convert; or maybe just apply to China Eastern account and post all the miles with China Eastern for future use.

Thanks.
Consider:
* will you fly MU again? Often? if so, credit to MU, better value.
* look at MU award chart, availability, see what would you use the kilometres/points on MU for
* doesn't MU award kilometres (much more logical), not miles (an obsolete measurement system, mostly only used by airlines, in order to provide you less points for distance-based flights flown)? does DL award you 1/2 a mile for reach km, or actually conver it to miles and then award 1/2 a mile of reach mile flown? reserach and find out, as this will make a difference.
