United Reservations Won't Honor Paid Ticket Booked on Travelocity

I don't have much experience with United, and have no status with them, so I need any input and advice from the United veterans on this board.
Last month I booked and paid for tickets for Thanksgiving break for my daughter and her boyfriend to fly from school in PHL to MIA.
The best deal was the United codeshare USAirways nonstop roundtrip PHL-MIA. In fact the United codeshares were $10 RT less than booking directly on USAirways.
Yesterday, I got an email from Travelocity stating that due to a "schedule change" her flights were now on United metal PHL-DCA-MIA (with a 3+ hour layover) the day before Thanksgiving and MIA-ORD-PHL returning (getting in PHL after midnight).
Now, I understand schedule changes, but the flights I originally booked are running on the same days at the same times. There has been no schedule change at all.
I spent a couple hours on the phone in a conference with Travelocity and UA with them pointing the finger at each other. United claimed it had no authority to offer a codeshare between these cities. If this is true, how could Travelocity gotten United flight numbers for these flights?
Bottom line, my only offer is to get a $300 per ticket refund, and rebook the exact same flights at $800+ RT from USAirways. This discounted coach are of course sold out now.
Any advice? Am I wrong to think UA is really hosing me here?
