They certainly can afford it IMHO. Yah, I probably won't be doing it again. Even though it was "only" May, it was indeed hot and dry. Not fun. I only did KHI-DXB over KHI-AUH because I needed some UA miles and was able to earn UA miles (non-elite) by flying EK.
The one thing I did like about it however was that once they weighed my carry-on @ their DXB office, they didn't weigh it again (even at AUH airport). I could have added 500 lbs of lead weights on my carry on and they wouldn't have known...

Ouch! I would never do a DXB/AUH transit (though I've done it in the past with a night in Dubai and will do the same again in a couple weeks). I simply meant if headed for Dubai choosing DXB or AUH is second to considering fares and the respective products of Emirates and Etihad.

Again, I don't believe "AUH and DXB" are the "same thing". The opportunities in flights/routes/etc is much greater @ DXB.
