One then collect one's suitcase(s) then take a train/taxi to EY office on Sheikh Zayed Road, then deal with the bus to AUH (which isn't too bad actually), then deal with immigration again. Fortunately I had about 12 hours of connection time so I was able to do some misc. things (read: sightseeing/exploring) in Dubai. Its my 5th or 6th time in Dubai. Place is always different then my previous visits...
Ouch! I would never do a DXB/AUH transit (though I've done it in the past with a night in Dubai and will do the same again in a couple weeks). I simply meant if headed for Dubai choosing DXB or AUH is second to considering fares and the respective products of Emirates and Etihad.
