I can't argue with you that EK offers much better connections (if only in numbers) in DXB however.
I recently flew KHI-DXB on EK then AUH-MAN-ORD on EY/AA. Its a total hassle to go from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. One has to go through immigration @ DXB (lines could be long-depending on time of day). One then collect one's suitcase(s) then take a train/taxi to EY office on Sheikh Zayed Road, then deal with the bus to AUH (which isn't too bad actually), then deal with immigration again. Fortunately I had about 12 hours of connection time so I was able to do some misc. things (read: sightseeing/exploring) in Dubai. Its my 5th or 6th time in Dubai. Place is always different then my previous visits...
