Not sure why people think that being in Y on an A380 is an advantage. There are more Y pax waiting to check-in, board and get off the plane at each stop.
Until now one of the big Y class attractions of SIA's A380s is the ability to sit at the rear of the upstairs zone where the seating is 2-4-2 and there's a more club-like environment.
But the latest batch of SIA A380s (which will see service on the London route) have given over the entire upper deck to J pax so Y pax are now accommodated downstairs.
If you do choose SIA then check the A380 type should you wish to sit upstairs.
