Can you fly on or before 13 December 2011? That's the break point for the expensive Christmas fares.

To illustrate this, a quick search on EF suggests that for a departure on 13 December, the lowest valid published base fare on BA (subject to availability and fare rules) is £516. For a departure on 14 December, this goes up to £1178.
