Is there a reason why a site along the HS2 line is never seriously considered - say somewhere around Bicester/Aylesbury? Surely this would be more generally accessible.
New aiports at either Cublington or Wing in that area were looked at in the early 70's when Maplin Sands was originally selected. The protests (quite genteel by todays standards) were generally viewed as the start of the NIMBY movement.
Bicester even has a 400 acre ex-RAF airfield at present for something new to be based on....it would be a start
