Receiving a voicemail to call United...and being charged a fee for calling back?!

I booked a Mileage Plus ticket online, but my credit card info had just changed and I hadn't yet updated it online. So the credit card to pay the fees didn't work, and I received a voicemail to call United with a new credit card.

I followed United's request and called. The call took forever, as the phone agent kept wanting to confirm the itinerary, ask if I wanted a rental car, etc.; all I wanted and needed to do was follow United's original request and provide a new credit card number.

The call ended and I finally received the confirmation of ticketing by email...plus a separate $25 fee for calling United.

What in the world? Is there a way to dispute this, other than through my credit card company? Completely rotten.
