While I wasn't trying to sound elitist with the comment about "almost everybody" having some sort of device a quick look around any gate area (not just the usual lounge haunts of us Ft'er's) and I see most passengers playing around with some sort of device. I think BA should go the FlyNet route if they still want to position themselves as cutting edge for their premium pax target even if they do keep the temperamental AVOD system. Especially in the very near future as more and more tablets are sold.
I think many 'older' customers don't have ipods/ipads etc. But you're right (IME) that the trend is clearly going towards people providing their own IFE compared even to 2 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if PTVs were removed in the future, what with oil prices as they are -and instead increased onboard connectivity being offered. Another good opportunity for the airlines to nickel and dime the customer.
