Flying Ex-Eu is generally much cheaper than flying from LHR. The difference may not be worth it for Y but for higher classes it can be quite substantial even once you include the extra flight to get to your "starting" point e.g. LHR-AMS-LHR-HKG-LHR-AMS-LHR
Alternatively you could look at flying KLM or another European carrier that has lower prices if starting outside the carrier's home country.
