Raleigh, NC. Great (and free!) art museum. Lots of nice parks downtown. Plus they're revitalizing downtown so there are numerous good restaurants and bars and at the same time, there's plenty of Civil War history and the gorgeous old Capital. Also, the Progress Energy Center gets good shows and there's usually a few empty seats at Hurricanes games
