I don't have any issues with the current system (although I'd like all of NA to be a single zone).

Your suggestion could work against you as well. Say you were flying YUL-YYZ-ORD-LAX, on AC metal as far as ORD. If you were flying all the way to LAX you could get dinged 10 credits instead of 6.

As with most systems there are things that will work to your advantage, and sometimes not so much. For example there are a few routings where taking a single (short) leg in economy can allow a person to upgrade the rest of the journey for less credits. If everything was based on origin and destination no matter what I'm sure there would be plenty of other reasons to complain.

Why didn't you take the same flights as your colleague and not paid the extra credits?
