There has been much discussion on this in the past. The service they offer is very limited: the email has to be redirected through their mail server, and is batched and sent every 15mins or so. There is no way of accessing corporate email servers, and there is no internet access. What there is is a cache of some internet pages which is updated before takeoff.

Basically Cathay picked the wrong horse - they should have gone with the Boeing Connexion service which offers genuine internet access.
