Personally, I'd just stick the extra sim in a bag and switch out as needed. Carrying a paper clip isn't that big of a deal to me. Also, neither takes up that much weight.
Agreed about switching out - and it works quite well on my iPhone whereas it didn't work at all on my old BB because of its complicated settings. However, even on my iPhone there's a procedure to be followed immediately prior to leaving the country I'm departing and another to be followed immediately on arrival. Some of the steps are slightly complicated and easy to get wrong if I am flustered because of some IRROPS or other airport-related panic.
