I am pretty sure that in the past, on several occasions I have used my AA Gold card to enable me to check in at the club world queue, thereby avoiding the disney-like snaking queue for WT/WT+. However today in Toronto I was told (very nicely and politely) that it didn't entitle me to do this and I had to slum it in the aforementioned queue

So, was I lucky in the past, or did the rules change, or was the very apologetic checkin lady incorrect?
