She've been kind of insulted by the US consulate in HK and got really pissed off.

Interestingly, the one time I visited the U.S. consulate in Hong Kong, I felt awkward, as it seemed that the counter staff treated the non U.S. citizens in a less than friendly manner, while being overly polite towards me (a U.S. citizen).
