I would prefer a HK number, but its not a big deal to get a China number.
The purpose is to stay in touch (locally, calling hotels, etc.), and to call/receive calls to/from friends/relatives in HK and USA, and Canada. The minutes used will be low (under 200 minutes). This is for a trip that last ~1-1.5 month.
Peoples/China Mobile HK has a dual-number SIM that works at both places. It's charged in HK dollars and quite reasonable for rates in both places.
