True, but a company in bankruptcy has a GREAT deal of leverage with those that demanded concessions in the contract to begin with. It can lead to "fine, don't agree to modify the contract, you're out of a job, how's that?"
That's when you hope the union guys come to their senses and think about things big picture, not short term. AA employees have a lot to be thankful for that they never filed for bankruptcy, protecting the stock and pension of countless employees and shareholders. The time may have come to revisit all these issues, frankly I hope so, I want AA to be around.
