I'm surprised you can buy it in the US, I've never seen it in any restaurant and people looked at me like I'd grown 2 heads when I ask for it, they had never heard of it. I've not looked in a US grocery store though.
If you put effort into it, you can buy almost any packaged food item in the US that is produced elsewhere. Note that the recipe may be slightly changed, but you can always find the brand. And yes, there are even "British/English Food" sections in large US supermarkets.
Yes, as an American, we generally use the term British or English interchangable, though I know they are not.
This thread is very amusing to me, especially the differences in the wording and written style from US english, not to mention the topic. I guess over on UA we are very particular about the temperature of our nuts whereas the type of "brown sauce" is of particular importance to BA flyers!
