I'm surprised you can buy it in the US, I've never seen it in any restaurant and people looked at me like I'd grown 2 heads when I ask for it, they had never heard of it. I've not looked in a US grocery store though.
I actually went and bought some HP sauce on the way home last night - pretty standard Jewel-Osco supermarket on State St here in Chicago. They sell it in amongst the "condiments" section though noticeably not next to the American steak sauces (e.g. A1). The version they sell is manufactured in the Netherlands and imported through a company in California. It looks to me like it's exactly the same as the UK version and just has an additional label stuck on the bottle to comply with US food labeling regulations.
