Coffee is a mark of welcome, as most lesser-scale chains continue to realize.
I think Hyatt could ameliorate this if they were to place even-more-upscale coffee and coffee maker in the room, and tout it on a card. Anyone who puts the coffee on before going into the shower gets it faster and more reliably than if it's down the hall. I think most people would appreciate it, and probably most Gold Passport members would infer that there was a lot of wastage and labor that went into the coffee in the hall, accompanied by the potential for unhappiness when it wasn't hot or refilled. I actually don't remember the coffee in the hall being all that special. On the other hand, when I see that almost all the much lesser-scale chains have it in their lobbies all the time, I think, Hyatt, why not?
And while we're at it, I wouldn't mind at all if the evening turndown service w/ chocolate became an opt-in amenity instead of the opt-out, as I treat it and do - every stay. Now that's labor-intensive and superfluous. I know, it's another opportunity for a gratuity, so there are two sides to it in that respect.
