Thanks for the info folks. I will try to use them within the US..

Now a more general question. Is the Flex Award truly refundable? i.e. not only the miles but the $450 in surcharges and $100 in taxes they charge for the ticket. All of them go back to the account and the credit card? This is for an SFO-DEL routing.
