Very kind of you to help. thanks. I really want to fly LAX-YYZ on return (don't mind one stopover).

I have been trying to pressure United into giving me the same 12,500 mile rate that I saw on Saturday for Dec 23 but didn't book

If you don't think it affects rate to buy the flights as two separate one-ways, that's probably what I will do.

I have been driving myself crazy trying to weigh out whether it is:

- worth it to wait to book whole thing
- book one with miles other with cash
- pay cash for the entire flight and just collect the miles (although the $600 price is a little extreme).

I was initially supposed to go from the 14-19 and prices were way cheaper all around.
