The baggage transit procedures seem to be "unreliable" (unless you are flying F/J and/or have priority tagged baggage)after talking to a SkyPier agent on the phone.

When transferring from air --> sea, you would give the SkyPier representatives your baggage claim receipts and their staff would go to the baggage claim to claim your bags and have you identify them before boarding a "bonded" bus to the ferry terminal.(as you are not supposed to go thourgh HK immigration and go directly to the SkyPier ferry terminal)

What if you are unlucky and your bags are among the last from your flight to come out and the SkyPier staff get impatient and give up, do you leave for Shenzhen without your bags (as your ferry is leaving soon) and then later file a missing baggage claim with CX?

For SkyPier to work efficiently, I think they should get a seperate three letter "IATA airport code" for Air-->Sea baggage transfer purposes in Hong Kong. This way, airlines flying to Hong Kong such as CX can tag their baggage directly to "SkyPier" if you ask. (i.e. instead of tagging the bag, "HKG" as the final destination, they would tag it "***" as the final destination, where *** would be the assigned code)

For the "connecting flight number" from HKG to "***", they could use a ficticous flight number "eg. CX 999" designated for Air --> Sea transfer baggage.
