I still say this move is being made to stymie VS's attempt to gain HKG-Australia 5th freedom rights. I doubt if BA would ascent to allowing another airline to operate LHR-U.S. (SQ has long wanted yo operate this). Only Air India and Kuwait have those grandfathered rights.
