Kimpton - The Muse - New York City

Stayed at the Muse in New York City this last weekend. One night was my free certificate; the other a paid night stay from the fall promotion offered in the summer. Finding the property was a bit difficult. Upon arrival there were three front desk clerks working. There were many people around the desk which I found out later they were all one family. I waited 20 minutes before a clerk motioned to me to come over. No hello, welcome to the Muse, etc. No acknolwedgement of my IC status.

Room was lovely. Was upgraded to an Executive King room. Upon entering the standard bottle of red wine with 3 very small cheese bites and 3 crackers were in the room along with a note. Those are not my selections on my profile - gave the wine away; left the cheese bites untouched. Later I received my card for the Raid on the Mini-bar. I like that in a NYC property the limit is $15 where the rest of the country it is $10. There was a selection of drinks including Coke products and 3 different beers. The Eventi mini-bar had a much greater selection than the Muse.

I liked that they had a FedEx envelope in the closet on a hanger. I thought that was creative and a nice way to provide an "extra service." However; that is where it ended. The staff at this property had a could care less attitude. The bell staff especially was just awful; could not be bothered whatsoever. We were running close to the time for a dinner reservation. Asked if they could get a cab for us. Was told "well you can take the house car we have." We said "great, how much is it?" His response was $45 (it was a 2 mile ride). We then said "no thanks, we'll wait for a cab." He then said "well you'll have to wait 15 - 20 minutes. Didn't whistle to get a cab; didn't walk to the corner to flag one down, etc. We decided to walk and get a cab a block away. There were various issues with the staff at this property. Not nearly as impressive as the staff at the Vintage Hotel or Hotel Monaco or Hotel Palomar.

Wine hour was ridiculous. There were well over 60 people in the lobby which can comfortably hold about 30! No way to get a glass of wine; there were no appetizers available. Went upstairs and had some wine that I had purchased.

On the first floor there are a number of different stalls in the bathroom. There were 2 that were pretty cool but the rest were OK. A friend of mine also stayed there this weekend. In her room there was a tear in the lamp in her sitting area. The elevator broke while there as well. The lobby was lovely albeit small. The bar/restaurant is right off the lobby and was somewhat small.
